Hail, the Sultan!
What the hell is 'Sultana'?
This is the page for Sultana, a bizarre and novel matchlock fantasy setting, staged in the heart of an ancient empire that sprawls across an even older, stranger world.
At its heart, the reclusive, mysterious Sultan of Sultans, the unknown, unseen, and seemingly deathless ruler of millions who has not been seen by living men in more than four thousand years.
The Sultan's empire, which has not known conflict in millennia, has conquered all foes before it, and has no equal, today is steeped in uncertainty. As it were in the Sultan's day, so it is again, the creeping catastrophe that is Interesting Times.
The Sultanate is immense, spanning several thousand miles across the face of the supercontinent. Most of this territory is inland, accessible by roads, or river barges where feasible. It is also, taken as a whole, relatively peaceful. There has not been a major war on the face of the supercontinent for some two and a half thousand years, the last being against the sole remaining opponent to sultanate control, the Western Adversary. For its immense size and wealth, the empire does very little. It maintains an immense standing army, impeccably drilled and equipped, that has not seen real combat in any of its members lives. The greatest military threats to the Sultanate are particularly large, roving bands of brigands, and the possibility of coup or insurrection.
